A Bindura based ex-soldier Kudakwashe Chide Madzivanzira was arraigned before Bindura magistrates courts today.
The 27-year-old Madzivanzira was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.
The magistrate suspended two years on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecutor Edward Katsvairo told the court that on December 13, the convict arrived at the complainant's house in Bindura and found her bathing.
He tried to rape the complainant who is an ex-Zimbabwe Republic Police Assistant Commissioner and she pushed the convict before grabbing a dress.
After wearing she shouted for help and Madzivanzira escaped.
