A 29-year-old woman from Harare, Prisca Takaza, appeared in court on Friday facing charges of murder after allegedly fatally stabbing her husband during a domestic dispute. Takaza was remanded in custody when she appeared before Harare Magistrate Isheunesu Matova.
According to prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, the incident unfolded when the now-deceased arrived home intoxicated and joined Takaza in their bed. Shortly after, a heated argument erupted between the couple, with the deceased accusing Takaza of infidelity, among other grievances.
The argument quickly escalated, with the couple shouting at each other. It is alleged that the deceased became physically aggressive, assaulting Takaza and allegedly choking her, causing her to fall to the floor near a dish filled with kitchen utensils.
In an attempt to defend herself, Takaza is said to have grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband once in the chest. The altercation ultimately led to the husband's death.
Takaza was arrested and remanded in custody as investigations continue. The case has drawn attention to the prevalence of domestic violence and the tragic outcomes that can result from such disputes. The court proceedings are ongoing as Takaza faces the serious charge of murder.
