Blessed Mhlanga surrenders to police after manhunt order

Alpha Media Holdings senior reporter Blessed Mhlanga has handed himself over to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Law and Order section at Harare Central Police Station following a police manhunt issued last week.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi had announced that Mhlanga was wanted for allegedly distributing content deemed harmful to the State, in violation of Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

Mhlanga's legal troubles stem from a recent interview he conducted with Zanu-PF central committee member and war veteran Blessed Geza. In the interview, Geza issued an ultimatum to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, demanding that he step down from office.

The journalist had failed to report to the police last week due to illness, but he has now presented himself to authorities for questioning.

His arrest comes amid growing concerns over press freedom and the treatment of journalists in Zimbabwe, with media rights groups calling for transparency in the handling of the case.

More details are expected to emerge as police proceed with their investigations.
