A two-year secret love affair between an immigration officer and a police officer's wife has erupted into scandal after the jilted lover exposed the relationship to his girlfriend's husband - in a dramatic fallout over a laptop.
Nhlanganisi Sibanda, an immigration officer stationed at the Beitbridge Border Post, had been romantically involved with Tafadzwa Sigauke, the wife of a Zimbabwe Republic Police officer, since 2023. Their affair remained hidden until Tafadzwa decided to end it - sparking an emotional and vengeful reaction from Sibanda.
According to Tafadzwa, the affair turned sour after she refused to return a laptop Sibanda had bought her as a gift during their relationship. In retaliation, Sibanda allegedly contacted her husband directly and revealed their affair.
In an interview with H-Metro, Tafadzwa expressed shock and disappointment over Sibanda's actions, branding him "childish".
"To be honest with you brother, Sibanda is too childish," said Tafadzwa. "I met him sometime in Gwanda and he proposed love to me. I gave in. He later bought me a laptop as a gift. My challenge was how to explain it to my husband, so I told him I had bought it on installments."
Tafadzwa said she later began to feel guilty about the affair and decided to cut ties, but Sibanda would not let go - demanding his laptop back and repeatedly requesting intimacy.
"Sibanda was disturbed by my decision and started to demand back his laptop," she said. "He went on to phone my husband, disclosing my affair with him. Kana ndiwewo, kudenha sekunonzi ipwere… no one caught us; he told my husband on his own."
She revealed that her husband is now furious and is considering legal action against Sibanda for interfering in his marriage.
"I will not give him the laptop," Tafadzwa added. "I am a student and I need it. He is stupid."
H-Metro attempted to reach Sibanda for comment, but he declined to speak on the matter.
The scandal has sparked heated debate on social media about revenge tactics in broken relationships and the emotional fallout of extramarital affairs, especially involving state security officers.
