Zimbabwean football legends Honour Gombami and Vusa Nyoni received a rousing hero's welcome in Belgium as top-flight club Cercle Brugge paid tribute to the former Highlanders and Warriors stars for their invaluable contributions to the team during their playing days.

The emotional tribute unfolded at the Jan Breydel Stadium on May 3, ahead of Cercle Brugge's league clash against Kortrijk. Although Brugge succumbed to a 2–0 defeat, the spotlight was firmly on the dynamic Zimbabwean duo, whose electrifying performances once lit up the Belgian Pro League.

"It was a great honour being invited to the centre of the pitch and being introduced to the home fans," said a visibly moved Honour Gombami, who featured prominently for Cercle Brugge over three seasons. "It was acknowledgement of our contribution to the club."

Gombami and Nyoni's appearance on the hallowed turf was met with thunderous applause, as fans paid homage to two players who made their mark not only in Belgium but also on the international stage with Zimbabwe.

The tribute underscored the lasting impact of their journey from Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo to the European football arena—a testament to their hard work and talent.

Gombami's promising career was tragically cut short by injury, leading to his early retirement in 2012. Despite this, his legacy at Brugge endures, with supporters still remembering his elegant footwork and relentless pace on the wing.

Vusa Nyoni, a versatile and dependable presence on the left flank, also carved out a loyal fanbase during his time in Belgium, where he became a cult figure for his consistency and quiet brilliance both at club level and in Zimbabwe's national team setup.

The green carpet treatment given to Gombami and Nyoni is a rare gesture that highlights the deep respect and affection the club and its supporters still hold for the pair more than a decade after their departure.

Their journey continues to inspire a new generation of Zimbabwean footballers dreaming of making their mark on the global stage.
