Businessman shoots wife dead, commits suicide

A sense of shock and grief has gripped the Tshidixwa suburb in Beitbridge after popular local businessman Farai Longwe, widely known as Mr Grocery, fatally shot his wife before taking his own life on Wednesday evening.

The incident reportedly occurred just before midnight, when Longwe, who owns a chain of grocery shops in the western suburbs, locked himself in the bedroom with his wife. The motive behind the alleged murder-suicide remains unclear.

Beitbridge District Police Officer Commanding, Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, confirmed that investigations are ongoing. "We have deployed a special team of detectives to the ground and I am yet to get full details. We will advise on further developments at a later stage," he said.

According to sources close to the matter, the incident was reported to the police by the landlord, who heard gunshots emanating from Longwe's bedroom.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing disbelief over the sudden and violent deaths of the well-known businessman and his wife.

Police investigations continue as authorities seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
