A normally quiet suburb in Beitbridge was shaken on Thursday after a couple was found dead in their home, their bodies bearing gunshot wounds in what police believe may be a murder-suicide.
The victims, Nyasha Madenyika, 32, and her lover Farai Prosper Longwe, 34, were discovered motionless in their bedroom in the town's Medium Density suburb. According to police, Nyasha had sustained a gunshot wound to the cheek, while Farai was shot on the right side of his ear.
A police statement confirmed the discovery and ongoing investigation: "The ZRP is investigating a murder case involving a couple, Nyasha Madenyika (32) and Farai Prosper Longwe (34), whose bodies were found lying in a room at their residence in Medium Density, Beitbridge, on 11 September 2025."
Authorities recovered a Smith and Wesson revolver from the scene, still clutched in Farai's right hand. The firearm was loaded with three live rounds, and investigators also found three spent cartridges and 36 additional live rounds.
Neighbours described the couple as quiet and private, with no indication of conflict. One resident, who requested anonymity, recounted: "We just heard loud bangs around midnight, but we thought they were firecrackers. We only realised it was gunshots when police arrived."
The motive for the deaths remains unclear, and police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. "More details will be revealed as investigations unfold," authorities said.
The incident has left the Beitbridge community shaken, prompting speculation over whether the tragedy resulted from a personal dispute or a more complex set of circumstances.
