Woman pours boiling water on sister's maid

A 38-year-old Bulawayo woman from Emganwini suburb has appeared in court after allegedly pouring boiling water over her maid, leaving the victim with severe burns on her face and chest.

Privilledge Moyo was arraigned before Western Commonage magistrate Archie Wochiwunga on charges of physical abuse. She was remanded in custody to 17 September pending a psychiatric assessment by two doctors to determine her mental state.

According to prosecutor Audrey Kufandikanwe, the incident occurred on 28 August when Moyo-who is the sister of the complainant's employer-suddenly seized a pot of boiling water from the kitchen and poured it over the maid, Bethia Moyo, without provocation.

The victim was rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), where she is admitted and receiving treatment for serious burn injuries.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Privilledge Moyo's arrest.
