An ex-magistrate Edith Kakuruwo was convicted for defrauding $7000 to a land seeker.
Kakuruwo was found guilty of the charge by Bindura magistrate Tinashe Ndokera.
Ndokera remanded Kakuruwo in custody to September 25 for sentencing.
Prosectutor Carson Kundiona told the court that on 15 March 2023, Edith Kakuruwo (who is a former magistrate) sold stand number 442 Chipindura Park, Bindura to the complainant Pain Matarutse. She was paid the full amount of USD 7000 and they entered into an agreement of sale.
Despite this, she proceeded to resell the same stand to another person on 01 April 2023.
Matter came to light sometime in May 2023 when the complainant intended to develop the stand, only to find out that someone else was already building on the stand. Further investigations revealed that the Kakuruwo had already completed a session agreement to transfer ownership of the stand, despite having earlier on sold it to Pain Matarutse.
Total value prejudiced is 7000 and nothing was recovered
