Zimbabwe modernising its immigration procedures

Zimbabwe has taken a major step toward modernising its immigration procedures with the introduction of a digital arrival system for non-resident visitors. Under this new initiative, travellers arriving at Harare, Victoria Falls, and Bulawayo airports are required to complete an online arrival form prior to entry, replacing the traditional paper-based documentation. The system, implemented by the Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ), is designed to expedite border processing while strengthening security.

The digital form collects essential traveller information, enabling immigration authorities to process arrivals more efficiently. While iPads will be available at airport immigration desks for those unable to complete the form online, visitors are strongly encouraged to submit their details before departure to avoid delays.

This transition is expected to enhance operational efficiency at Zimbabwe's busiest airports, particularly Harare International Airport and Victoria Falls Airport, reducing queue times and improving the overall visitor experience. By facilitating faster entry, the system allows tourists to begin exploring iconic destinations - such as Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park, and the cultural attractions of Harare and Bulawayo - without unnecessary delays.

The digital system aligns with international best practices and Zimbabwe's broader goals of adopting modern technology and upgrading infrastructure. It also strengthens border security while making the country more competitive as a global tourism destination.

In addition to the online arrival form for foreign visitors, Zimbabwe has introduced automated eGates for citizens with e-passports. This system allows residents to bypass manual processing, using digital passport information for quicker and more secure entry. The eGates are expected to reduce congestion and streamline the flow of travellers through immigration, benefiting both Zimbabwean residents and foreign nationals holding e-passports.

Tourism officials highlight several advantages of the digital immigration system: reduced paperwork, simplified entry procedures, and faster processing times.
