A 39-year-old Bulawayo man has been jailed for unlawful possession of crystal methamphetamine valued at US$6,000, following a police sting that exposed his alleged drug-dealing operations.

Pigors Tyron Siegfried of Matsheumhlope suburb was sentenced to eight years in prison by Bulawayo magistrate Sibonginkosi Mnkandla on Tuesday. Three years of the sentence were conditionally suspended, leaving him to serve an effective five years.

Siegfried’s arrest in March came after months of surveillance by detectives who had been tracking his activities since February. Acting on a tip-off, police raided his home and uncovered nearly 2kg of crystal meth hidden in unusual places, including a Lobel’s biscuit box, a Puma sneaker box, a dictionary-shaped safe, and a large blue metal trunk in his bedroom.

Officers also recovered two small measuring scales believed to have been used to package the drugs.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the bust, saying Siegfried had been on law enforcement’s radar for some time.

“Police acted on information they received about the suspect dealing in drugs. They pounced on him at his residence, where they discovered the drugs in his bedroom. The confiscated substance tested positive for crystal meth,” said Nyathi.

He added that investigations were ongoing to trace Siegfried’s supply chain and identify possible accomplices.

The case was prosecuted by Nomthandazo Mafu.
