A 20-year-old man from Mwadzinga Village under Chief Mutema died following a tragic bicycle accident along the Jopa–Kopa Road on October 25.
Manicaland Province Police Acting Spokesperson, Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident, identifying the deceased as Agreement Mauraye.
According to police, Mauraye was riding a Buffalo pedal bicycle around 11:00 AM with a 17-year-old passenger when tragedy struck near the 10km peg close to Rusitu Bridge.
"Upon approaching the bridge, Mauraye lost control of the bicycle and collided with a bridge pillar. The impact threw both of them onto the tarmac," said Inspector Chinyoka.
Mauraye sustained serious injuries, including bruises on his legs and bleeding from his private parts. He was rushed to hospital but died upon admission. His passenger, identified as Mugidho, survived the crash.
Inspector Chinyoka urged members of the public - particularly young cyclists - to exercise caution on the roads and ensure that bicycles are properly maintained before use.
Police have since launched investigations into the fatal incident.
