A Harare businessman, Peter Simon Sini, allegedly lost US$5,000 to two women he had reportedly hired for entertainment after a night out in Belgravia.

The two suspects, Brenda Muchingwe (27) and Paida Muchinha (24), both from Redcliff, Kwekwe, appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo on Thursday facing theft charges.

The duo, who are accused of stealing the money from Sini at Evitro Club, challenged their placement on remand. The court is expected to deliver its ruling on Friday, November 7.

According to the State, the incident occurred on October 24, when Sini was drinking beer with the pair at the upmarket Belgravia nightspot. During the outing, Muchingwe allegedly stole Sini's wallet, which contained the US$5,000, and handed it to Muchinha before both women disappeared.

Sini later reported the matter to the club's security personnel, who conducted a search, but nothing was recovered.

The case has drawn attention amid a rising number of incidents involving revellers falling victim to theft and scams during nightlife encounters in Harare.
