HARARE - Zimbabweans from across the country are calling on businessman Wicknell Chivhayo to publicly acknowledge the philanthropic efforts of Sekuru Banda, whose charitable work continues to uplift vulnerable communities.

The appeal follows Sekuru Banda's latest humanitarian gesture in Marondera, where he donated food hampers worth US$10,000 to struggling families in Cherima and Dombotombo suburbs. Beneficiaries praised his generosity, describing him as a selfless figure who supports people regardless of religion, politics, or background.

"Sekuru Banda has a heart of gold. He helps people from all walks of life. To him, everyone is equal before God," said James Maposa, one of the recipients.

Tawanda Moyo, another beneficiary, noted that the hampers included essential items such as rice, sugar, beans, maize meal, cooking oil, salt, and soap.

Sekuru Banda's track record of giving includes:
- Supporting artists during the COVID-19 lockdowns
- Building a six-roomed house for the late comedian Marabha in Epworth
- Providing groceries and medical aid to football legend George Shaya
- Donating sanitary wear to rural schoolgirls
- Assisting public figures like Paradzai Mesi, boxer Mosquito, and socialite Lady Squander

The call for Chivhayo's recognition comes amid public debate over his own high-profile cash and car giveaways, which critics argue are politically motivated and aimed at silencing dissent over corruption and constitutional amendments that could extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa's term beyond 2028.

As the conversation around genuine empowerment and philanthropy deepens, many Zimbabweans are urging influential figures to celebrate grassroots humanitarian efforts that make a lasting impact.
