The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have condemned the inhumane and degrading treatment of a child following the circulation of a viral video showing an unidentified woman severely assaulting a minor whose hands and legs were tied.

In a statement released on 20 November, the ZRP confirmed that investigations had been launched to identify the woman responsible and ensure that justice is served. The police said: "The ZRP has taken note of a disturbing video circulating on social media platforms, showing a woman severely assaulting a minor whose hands and legs are tied. The ZRP strongly condemns such inhumane and degrading treatment of children. Investigations into the incident are currently underway, with a view to identifying the suspect involved and ensuring that the law takes its course. The public will be kept informed of any developments."

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the incident took place in Machisi Village, Bocha, Manicaland Province. The woman involved is reportedly the child's biological mother and allegedly assaulted the child for eating bread at a neighbour's house. Sources further indicate that the woman is separated from the child's father.

The ZRP has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any cases of child abuse, stressing that perpetrators will face legal consequences under Zimbabwean law.
