The Zimbabwean football fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the death of former TelOne FC defender Frankson Bushiri, who died in a car accident early Sunday morning.

Bushiri was involved in a fatal crash near Gweru, just after Regina Mundi School, after he reportedly lost control of his vehicle. The car veered off the road and struck a tree.

An eyewitness said Bushiri was allegedly fleeing after side-swiping another vehicle moments before the accident.

Details surrounding funeral arrangements were yet to be confirmed at the time of publication.

Bushiri enjoyed a long and distinguished career in Zimbabwe's top-flight football, turning out for several clubs over the years. He previously played for Shabanie Mine, Buffaloes, Sheasham and Chapungu FC, earning respect for his commitment and experience at the back.

Tributes have begun pouring in from former teammates, clubs and fans, who remembered Bushiri as a dedicated footballer whose contribution to the local game spanned many seasons.

The football community continues to rally around his family during this difficult time.
