A shocking incident in Zhombe, Midlands Province, marred the start of the new year after a man allegedly stabbed his father following a dispute over the man's behaviour in local shops. The event occurred under Chief Gwesela’s jurisdiction at Senkwasi Business Centre on 1 January 2026.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA), the suspect had been harassing members of the public in the business centre when his father tried to intervene. In response, the man reportedly pulled out a knife from his left hand and stabbed his father, leaving him seriously injured. He is currently receiving treatment at Kwekwe General Hospital.

The suspect appeared before a Kwekwe magistrate and was sentenced to ten months in prison. Four months were suspended for good behaviour, while the remaining six months were converted to 210 hours of community service.

The NPA emphasized the need for restraint and peaceful conflict resolution in communities, warning that violence has no place in public spaces. "While punishment plays an important role for offenders, protecting the public is paramount and requires self-control and peaceful resolution of disputes," the authority said.
