A section of Bulawayo's busy city centre market area has been temporarily closed to allow the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) to carry out road rehabilitation works aimed at extending the lifespan of the pavement, enhancing road safety and improving ride quality for motorists.

The works are being conducted on Jason Moyo Street between 4th and 5th Avenue, covering a stretch of approximately 160 metres.

In a statement, BCC said the rehabilitation programme began on Monday, 19 January 2026, and is expected to take between two and three weeks, subject to weather conditions.

"The City of Bulawayo would like to advise the motoring public, residents and stakeholders of the planned improvement works on Jason Moyo Street between 4th and 5th Avenue, covering a stretch of approximately 160 metres," the council said.

According to BCC, the works will include road pavement reconstruction, pothole patching, resurfacing, stormwater drainage cleaning, reinstatement of the carriageway, parking bay markings and other routine maintenance activities.

"Upon completion, these improvements will extend the lifespan of the pavement, enhance road safety and improve ride quality for all road users," the council said.

To ensure the safety of motorists and construction workers, traffic management measures will be implemented, including full or partial carriageway closures where necessary. The council said it will make efforts to minimise disruption to traffic flow, nearby businesses and residents.

Motorists and members of the public have been urged to exercise caution when approaching the construction zone, observe all warning signs and follow designated diversion routes.

"The City of Bulawayo sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused," the statement said.
