Man hangs self over dirty wife

A 25-year-old man from Headman Handizvihwi area in Chivi, George Mutiziva, was found dead after allegedly taking his own life following a dispute with his wife over household cleanliness.

The incident reportedly began on 13 February at around 7:30PM when Mutiziva had an argument with his wife, Sheron Musengiwa, over cleanliness issues at their home. It is alleged that during the altercation, Mutiziva assaulted her.

On 14 February, Musengiwa reported the matter of domestic violence to the police.

Later that same day, at around 1:20PM, a passerby discovered Mutiziva's body hanging from a mukwakwa tree branch. The matter was reported to police, who attended the scene.

The body was subsequently taken to Chivi District Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Masvingo province deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu urged members of the public to resolve domestic disputes through peaceful and lawful means.

He emphasised that violence in domestic settings is not tolerated and encouraged couples to engage in dialogue or seek counselling when facing challenges in their relationships.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
