The Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Trynos Mpofu (38) to 48 months in prison for cultivating dagga.
The court heard that on 20 February, police detectives acting on a tip‑off visited a farm in Chinhoyi, where they found Mpofu unlawfully cultivating dagga. He led the officers to a vegetable garden containing 130 plants, ranging from 20 centimetres to one metre in height.
Eight months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, leaving Mpofu with an effective 40‑month jail term.
Authorities said the cultivation, possession or trafficking of illicit drugs remains a serious criminal offence. Communities were urged to remain vigilant, reject involvement in drug‑related activities and report suspected offenders to law enforcement agencies to safeguard public health, safety and societal well‑being.
