Dynamos may be without Khama Billiat, but the Harare giants appear to have discovered a new spark in 23-year-old Malawian winger Stanley Billiat. Making an immediate impact on his debut last weekend, Billiat's pace and direct running helped Dynamos secure a 2-1 win over TelOne at Ascot.
The surname instantly draws comparisons to Zimbabwean football star Khama Billiat, but the young Malawian is clear about forging his own path. "Everything has been amazing since I came here to Zimbabwe," he said. "I think everyone is ready for the match against Highlanders."
Billiat joins Dynamos from Malawian giants Nyasa Big Bullets, where he won four league titles, scored 13 goals in 74 appearances, and honed a fearless attacking style under Zimbabwean coach Kalisto Pasuwa. It was Pasuwa who recommended Billiat to Dynamos earlier this year.
Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe praised the winger's adaptation to life at DeMbare. "He is very good on the ball, technically sound, and has speed. His background makes him an ideal Dynamos player. He understands the pressure of playing for a big club and has adjusted quickly," Mangombe said.
The new addition adds depth to an already competitive attacking line-up that includes Leeroy Mavhunga, Witness Shave, and Ghanaian forward Frank Agmeyang. Billiat's willingness to take on defenders is expected to provide an extra dimension as Dynamos prepares for Sunday's showdown with Highlanders at Rufaro Stadium.
Highlanders come into the fixture after a 1-1 draw with Bulawayo Chiefs, while Dynamos ride the momentum of their opening-day victory. The clash promises another intense chapter in Zimbabwe's fiercest football rivalry, with fans eager to see if the new Billiat can live up to expectations on derby day.
