Dembare seeks to break 10 year Bosso jinx

Harare giants Dynamos FC are gearing up to stage a perfect revenge this Sunday when they face long-time rivals Highlanders FC.

The two sides last clashed in the Jairos Jiri Charity Cup at Barbourfields Stadium, where Dynamos, popularly known as 'Dembare', suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Bulawayo side affectionately nicknamed ‘Bosso'.

Fresh from a 2-1 victory over Tel One at Ascot Stadium last week, Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe expressed confidence that his team will deliver a much-improved performance this time.

"This is a different game altogether. During our last meeting, it was a cup match and we were still trying out combinations. Now, we have to do better and win because it's a new game," Mangombe said.

Dynamos' 2026 season began on a rough note after a 5-0 thrashing by Scottland FC in the Castle Challenge Cup, but Mangombe attributed the early struggles to financial challenges within the club.

"It's always good as a coach to work with a motivated team. I want to thank the executive for resolving the financial issues because the boys have now received their salaries for January and February. Everything is in place for us to get maximum points," added Mangombe.

Dynamos have not beaten Highlanders in a league match for a decade, and this Sunday presents a golden opportunity for the Harare giants to break that long-standing jinx.

Kick-off is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at National Sports Stadium, where fans will be eagerly hoping for a Dembare triumph.
