Zanu-PF Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha has commended churches for expressing support for Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, saying their views will be considered during parliamentary deliberations.

Addressing thousands of members of the Johane the 5th of Africa International Church at Cranborne Open Grounds in Harare during an Easter Passover gathering, Machacha said the party welcomed input from faith-based organisations and civil society as part of the legislative consultation process.

He said congregants had indicated their intention to formally submit their views to the parliamentary portfolio committee in support of the proposed amendment, adding that such submissions would be incorporated into the final drafting process.

"We are confident that their voices will be incorporated for a final draft of the Bill into law," he said.

Machacha further stated that Zanu-PF, as a mass party, values input from the majority of citizens, particularly churches, which he described as an important constituency in national planning and decision-making.

Johane the 5th of Africa International Church leader Archbishop Dr Andby Makururu expressed support for the Bill, saying it would help ensure continuity of national development projects and reduce political distractions linked to election cycles.

He said extended governance periods would allow government to focus on development, job creation, and completing ongoing projects under the Vision 2030 agenda.

The church also indicated that it supports the current leadership and called for unity and stability in the country, emphasising the importance of peace and development.

Meanwhile, Parliament has confirmed that public consultations on the Bill remain open until May 17, with citizens encouraged to continue submitting their views through available platforms as part of the 90-day legislative process.
