Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has rewarded dancer Prince, popularly known as “Prince the Amazing Dancer”, with gifts worth more than US$60,000 after the performer became the subject of ridicule on social media when his trousers tore during an energetic routine at a wedding.
In a lengthy social media post, Chivayo defended the dancer, saying the incident reflected passion, hard work and commitment rather than something to mock.
The wardrobe malfunction occurred during the wedding of Chivayo’s sister to businessman Tendai, where Prince was entertaining guests with a high‑energy performance before his trousers ripped on stage. The moment quickly went viral, attracting widespread mockery online.
Chivayo said he was hurt by the negative comments directed at the young performer.
“People laughed. They mocked. They posted. They ridiculed,” he wrote.
He said what many viewed as embarrassing was, in his eyes, evidence of dedication and determination.
“I did not see someone trying to impress anyone. I saw a man at work,” he said.
Chivayo added that the same passion that caused the wardrobe mishap was the same energy that builds success stories and greatness.
As a gesture of support, he announced that Prince would receive a Mercedes‑Benz C200 worth US$25,000, US$20,000 cash for fuel and upkeep, and clothing worth US$5,000, including several extra pairs of trousers. The dancer had already reportedly received US$10,000 before the latest reward package.
“Keep dancing, Prince. Keep pursuing your dreams. Keep giving everything you have every single time you step on that floor,” Chivayo said.
He also took aim at online trolls, warning against ridiculing hardworking Zimbabweans pursuing their talents and dreams.
“You are not watching failure. You are watching someone’s origin story,” he said.
