Vendor killed by detached truck wheel

A fruit vendor died after being struck by a wheel that detached from a moving haulage truck along the Gweru-Masvingo Highway in Shurugwi.
The fatal accident occurred recently at the Gamwa turn-off.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before travelling.
Mahoko said the deceased, Chipo Malaba of Langa Village under Chief Banga in Shurugwi, was selling fruit at the roadside when tragedy struck.
According to police, a wheel detached from a passing haulage truck and struck Malaba.
She sustained severe injuries and collapsed unconscious at the scene.
She was rushed to Shurugwi District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Inspector Mahoko appealed to motorists, particularly operators of heavy vehicles, to regularly inspect their vehicles and ensure all components are properly secured to prevent similar tragedies.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
