Police block one-man CAB3 protest

Police in Beitbridge have stopped a planned one-man demonstration by activist Blessing Brendon Dube against the recently enacted Criminal Laws Amendment Act (CAB3), directing him to resubmit his notification in compliance with the law.
Dube had intended to stage a solo protest against the legislation, which was signed into law by President Emmerson Mnangagwa a few weeks ago.
In a brief response to his notification, police did not provide specific reasons for refusing the demonstration. Instead, they instructed Dube to comply fully with the provisions of the Maintenance of Order and Peace Act (Chapter 11:21).
The letter stated: "May you fully comply with the provisions of the Maintenance of Order and Peace Act, Chapter (11:21)."
According to Dube, police verbally informed him that his notification contained errors, requiring him to restart the application process.
"They said there were some errors in my notification letter, so I have to submit a new notification and start the whole process again," he said.
The police did not specify the nature of the alleged errors or identify which provisions of the Maintenance of Order and Peace Act had not been met.
It remains unclear whether Dube intends to submit a revised notification for the planned demonstration.
