Zimbabwean granny arrested for allegedly killing husband with axe

A 63-year-old woman from Gwanda has been arrested after allegedly killing her 70-year-old husband with an axe during a domestic dispute involving her daughter.
Miriam Ndlovu of Matshetsheni Village is accused of fatally attacking Harold Ngwenya after he allegedly assaulted his stepdaughter during an argument.
Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni confirmed the incident, which occurred on August 11 at around 5pm.
According to police, Ngwenya was at home with his wife and their daughter, Happiness Ndlovu, when an altercation broke out.
"The now deceased had an altercation with his stepdaughter who went on to accuse him of being a witch," said Asst Insp Mguni.
Police allege that Ngwenya struck his stepdaughter with the blunt side of an axe, injuring her near the upper left eye.
"Ngwenya struck his stepdaughter with the back part of an axe on the upper left eye and the accused person refrained Ngwenya from further assaulting her daughter," Asst Insp Mguni said.
During the confrontation, Ndlovu allegedly overpowered her husband, seized the axe and struck him twice on the head.
"During the process the accused person overpowered Ngwenya, took the axe and struck him twice on the head. Ngwenya fell to the ground and died on the spot," he said.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Ndlovu's arrest.
Ngwenya's body was taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police said investigations into the incident are continuing.
Asst Insp Mguni urged members of the public to avoid resorting to violence when resolving disputes.
"The accused person has been arrested and investigations are underway. We urge members of the public to desist from engaging in violence when faced with disputes," he said.
"In this case, the couple could have engaged traditional leaders or family members in order to resolve their dispute. We also discourage carrying of dangerous weapons as they end up being used to commit such offences."
