Chivayo gets world's first $660 000 Godfather II watch

Controversial Zimbabwean businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo has received the first-ever Godfather II luxury watch from Swiss-American watchmaker Jacob & Co, a timepiece valued at US$660 000.

The watch, which is due to be officially launched in October, has been specially engraved with Chivayo's initials, "WMC 777".

Jacob Arabo, founder and chairman of Jacob & Co, announced the gift on Instagram, describing Chivayo as his "good friend", a "Zimbabwean billionaire" and the "Godfather of Philanthropy".

The Godfather II forms part of Jacob & Co's collaboration with Paramount Pictures to commemorate The Godfather film trilogy through a collection of ultra-luxury timepieces.

The first release, the Opera Godfather, is a 49mm watch featuring a triple-axis tourbillon and a miniature representation of Don Corleone incorporated into its movement.

The Godfather II is the latest addition to the collection and features a rectangular Art Deco-inspired rose-gold case.

Although less visually imposing than its predecessor, the watch incorporates an elaborate musical mechanism capable of playing either of two melodies associated with the films — "The Godfather's Waltz" and "The Godfather Love Theme".

Jacob & Co describes the feature as a first for a musical watch.

Arabo said Chivayo had been selected to receive the first piece ahead of its official launch.

"It is always a great pleasure welcoming and hosting you in Geneva. Congratulations on acquiring your unique Billionaire 3 timepiece," Arabo wrote in an earlier message to Chivayo.

"It is my great honour to invite you to the official launch of the new Godfather II this October. I am incredibly proud to present to you the very first piece in the world, specially engraved with your initials WMC 777."

Arabo said the timepiece was intended as a recognition of Chivayo's philanthropic activities.

"A token of our deepest appreciation and recognition of your unwavering selflessness, remarkable philanthropy, and extraordinary generosity across Africa and beyond," he wrote.

"You continue to inspire many through your kindness and the lives you transform. Indeed, you have earned the title of the Godfather of Philanthropy."

The latest acquisition is not Chivayo's first association with Jacob & Co.

He previously travelled to Geneva to collect a Billionaire 3, a high-end model also worn by celebrities including Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Rick Ross and DJ Khaled.

Chivayo, 45, has cultivated a high-profile philanthropic image through cash donations, vehicles and other gifts to political causes, military figures, football clubs, religious leaders, celebrities and individuals who have approached him through social media.

An analysis published in mid-2026 estimated that he had given away at least US$43.9 million in cash, vehicles and houses since March 2024, based only on publicly disclosed donations.

Despite his conspicuous wealth and philanthropy, Chivayo has generally kept the source of his fortune private.

He has, however, been widely linked to lucrative government contracts, with his business interests and political connections — particularly his relationship with President Emmerson Mnangagwa — frequently drawing public scrutiny.

The US$660 000 Godfather II watch is therefore likely to attract attention not only for its rarity and luxury but also because of the continuing debate surrounding Chivayo's wealth, business interests and public profile.
