A self confessed die hard Rhodesian going by the name Brian MyHill has revealed acts of terrorism against the Zimbabwean government through the South African National Defence Forces intelligence unit.
MyHill who claims to be working for the South African Army and based at some SMG base in Musina South Africa says that sometime in 1989 they were dispatched by the South African government forces to attack Chikurubi Maximum Prison and rescue "captured agents" from the prison. Writing in a social media posting, MayHill says that the group of terrorists' plan was to make their way into the country via Botswana and head straight to Chikurubi Prison in Harare and free the South African agents in the prison.
According to hill the plan was executed but was disturbed mid way as they were "compromised by someone in the South African intelligence." MyHill claims that half of the group of terrorists actually managed to make their way into the country with their arms before dropping off the plan on their way to Harare on instruction to abort the attack.
The former Rhodesian Army soldier further claims that they were provided with layout of the prison and looked set to execute the raid successfully. Chikurubi Prison is the country's biggest. Maximum prison situated on the outskirts of the capital city Harare. It is housing most of the country's high profile criminals and undoubtedly ranks amongst some of the top secure prisons in Africa. MayHill says that after abandoning the mission the group managed to find its way out of the country back to South Africa undetected by the Zimbabwean authorities.
In 1988 three South African Intelligence spies Kevin Woods, Michael Smith and Philip Conjwayo were arrested in Zimbabwe in connection with a bombing that killed the driver of the car transporting the bomb and injured several ANC members in Bulawayo. The three code identified in South African intelligence as The Harare Three were kept in Chikurubi Maximum Prison from the time they were sentenced in November 1988 which suggests that MayHill's task may have been to try and free the three from the prison.
Woods, Smith and Conjwayo were sentenced to death and their sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court. All three prisoners were former members of the Rhodesian intelligence and security forces. The three were recruited by the South African intelligence service after 1980 to carry out destabilisation activities in Zimbabwe. The trio was released from prison on President Mugabe's mercy pardon in July 2006 after spending close to two decades at Chikurubi Prison.
The extract of MayHill's post on social network Facebook on the Ex Rhodesians run page The Contact Zone reads as follows:
Brian Myhill > The Contact Zone "in 1989 a group of us were assigned to free the captured agents imprisoned in chikurubi,we would enter from Botswana, and head to Harare,we had the whole lay out of the prison, unfortunately,we were compromised by someone in SA INTELLIGENCE ,and only half of us got into the country,we were then informed to abandon the rescue,we then had to bury our weapons along the Harare. Bulawayo road,I always wondered if the weapons were ever found by Zim authorities?we managed to get back into Sa undetected."
