Man jailed over missing dried meat

A 38-year-old man from Kezi, Matebeleland South, has been sentenced to a one-year and three months (15 months) imprisonment for assaulting other villager over missing dried meat at Esibayeni slaughter house.

Kezi senior resident magistrate, Busani Sibanda convicted Kholwani Ndlovu (38) after finding him guilty of assaulting Polani Ngwenya (36) from Donkwe Donkwe village using clenched fists all over the body several times during an altercation.

The magistrate suspended five months of his sentence for five years on condition during the period the offender does not commit any offense involving use of force or violence on the person of another for which upon conviction, he is sentenced to imprisonment without an option of a fine.

Another remaining 10-months of his sentence were wholly suspended on condition he performs 350 hours of community service at Kezi Magistrates during mid-week working days except for public holidays (Monday s to Fridays).

Prosecutor Godfrey Ziki told the court that on the 3rd of November 2024 around 22:00 hours at Esibayeni slaughter house (Kezi), the accused proceeded to where the complainant was sleeping and asked him why he said he knew about the missing dried meat. A misunderstanding arose between the two and the accused person started to assault the complainant using clenched fists all over the body several times while the complainant managed to escape and ran away before serious injuries were inflicted upon him.

The complainant made a police report leading to arrest of the accused after hospital referral was issued for treatment and compilation of a medical affidavit.
