ICJ Delagation Arrives in Harare ahead of Chamisa Poll Challenge

21 Aug 2018 at 19:20hrs | Views
I can confirm that the three member delagation of African Judges and Jurists sent by the International Commission of Jurists is now in Harare ahead of tomorrow's high stakes hearing.

The delegation comprises of African Judges and Jurists Forum (AJJF) Secretary General Mr. Martin Masiga (Uganda) with retired Chief Justice Earnest Sakala (Zambia) and Justice Isaac Lenaola (Supreme Court Kenya).

ICJ's Secretary-General Saman Zia-Zarifi is on record for having said that, the change in leaders in Zimbabwe last year presented an opportunity to reverse decades of damage to the rule of law and respect for human rights in the Country. He added that the Country's Judiciary should be independent and all anti-corruption mechanisms in government departments should not be politicised.

It now remains to be seen whether the Country's Judiciary will live upto the challenge on Wednesday.
