5:51pm, 19 Apr - +263 7* *** ****: PLEASE HELP RESTORE SANITY AT SIANSUNDU SEC SCHOOL [BINGA DISTRICT]
As a former teacher and resident of Binga it nauseates me to the bone marrow to see a potentially good school going down the dustbins of stupor while those in authority are mollifying the situation like a mother protecting his aberrant children. The impending demise of Siansundu Sec School is something that can be easily precluded if those in authority flexes their muscles. The Provincial Education Director - Matebeleland North [Ms. Mguni] often denoted Siansundu as her school hence she has the capacity to restore lucidity at the school. There are a number of issues that need to be addressed at the mentioned school.
a) The school had a record number of primary trained teachers who should be assisting the struggling primary schools in the district. What is imperative to note is that the teachers were trained to teach at Primary level but they are teaching at Secondary School. The school is expediently located and draws secondary trained and degreed teachers who can replace those.
b) Ordinary Certificate holders are also teaching at this school example (names supplied). This compromises the system of education.
c) There are reports of improper association. This issued has dragged the reputation of the school into the mud. There is a member of the top administration who is on record having been involved with a number of pupils and at one point he impregnated one and forced her to abort. It is also alleged that another teacher an HOD and former (content withheld) uses his office as a love nest. The office used to be a community library and seems to be conveniently located for the teacher's roguish acts. What is most painful is that some teacher were made sacrificial lambs and lost their jobs in set ups by this administration for instance (name supplied) and (name supplied).
d) A member of the administration is on record having sold ZIMSEC scanner sheets to prospective candidates for an undisclosed fee for them to register for the ZIMSEC June Exams 2014. Zimsec should dispatch to probe those involved.
e) The school went for half of third term 2013 with no electricity after being disconnected by ZESA over unpaid debts. There were two new houses that had not been connected to electricity upon completion. When the houses were connected in the 1st term 2014 the top administration and their right hand men moved in leaving new and returning teachers in darkness. The teachers had to make contributions for the their houses to be reconnected.
f) In term 3, 2013, pupils were made to pay $2 each towards printing of examinations. The money was reportedly directed to other projects some which had nothing to do with exams and the running of exams became very difficult. That was no explanation from the top administration or the examinations committee.
g) Siansundu is the only school which doesn't give teachers incentives. The administration is on record having awarded incentive secretively to those loyal to them. Those who raise the issue of incentives are victimised.
h) Teachers are forced to wear suits on Mondays and Fridays and those with no suits are not allowed to attend assembly and when they attend obligatory briefings after assembly they will be named and chagrined.
i) There is a 'bush' boarding school at the station and there is no monitoring of pupils. A packet of used condoms was discovered near the hostels some time last term but the administration did nothing about it. My appeal extends to all stakeholders including the traditional leadership, politician and the Siansundu SABA community.
