THE ZIMBABWE Stock Exchange (ZSE) is conducting investment awareness seminars for Bulawayo university students in a bid to make them appreciate how the local bourse functions.

ZSE officials yesterday met with Lupane State University (LSU) students at the Small City Hall and today are expected to take their campaign to the National University of Science and Technology.

Alban Chirume, ZSE chief executive officer, said the seminars are targeting all universities throughout the country since they were at the pinnacle of human capital development.

"We want students to be aware of the opportunities in the capital markets and to provide them with the basic knowledge of various investment opportunities," Chirume said.

"The purpose of the meeting is to create awareness among students in tertiary institutions/universities of capital market, how they could function and their role in the economy," he added.

Adson Chapanduka, an LSU student, said: "This is an opportunity for me to be able to marry the theory acquired in class with the practical aspect of the industry. I am very happy because I have gained that practical insight of the role of ZSE in the growth and development of the country."

Julius Tapera, the chairperson of the Department of Accounting and Finance at Lupane University said: "This is an opportunity for us as a higher leaning institution to collaborate with the industry and impact practical knowledge to students.

"It is also an opportunity for creating synergies which we believe will assist us in creating opportunities for our students to be attached for work-related learning which is a critical part of our learning process."
