Hope Masike has had a stellar start to 2016, if her recent KORA nomination and NAMA 'Outstanding Video' Award are anything to go by.

To top that up, barely a week after her NAMA win, Masike released her very original and impressionistic video for her song NDINEWE, and immediately got her social media platforms swamped with compliments from fans and critics alike.

The video was directed by Charles Mawungwa, who is the winning director for Hope Masike's NAMA Award winning video, 'Huyai Tinamate'. Two of the costumes in the video were designed by Zimbabwean fashion designer Tarisai Gweje, with Masike designing the third look. Masike was the artistic director of the video. The four dancers, Theresa Muteta, Florence Muteta, Victor Sigauke and Terrence Kwenda are products of the Zimbabwe College of Music and Umoja.

Shot at a studio in Avondale called Tswatography, the video is a colourful play at contrasts between yellow and black, creating an aesthetically pleasant world. It starts on a rather dark and depressing note with Masike caged, chained and lifelessly dressed as a destitute, a clever play at bondage, slavery or perhaps poverty. On the first chorus, the song and video burst into life with Masike's first outfit and hairstyle change. As the song progresses it gets brighter and happier climaxing to the jovial Chinyambera dancing by Hope herself plus the four dancers.

By Sunday morning the video was already at almost three thousand views on Youtube. Also a live screening and discussion had already been done at Harare's Stimulus Hub on Saturday.  Numerous praises have been coming from her online following and several blogs all weekend through.

If you go to Hope Masike's Youtube channel and watch the video, you will agree that this is certainly one of Zimbabwe's best videos, with thorough originality, captivating symbolism and just plain rhythmic perfection.

We wait to see if the video will fend better that Huyai Tinamate.

Masike is named 'Best Traditional Female Artist' nominee by KORA All Africa Awards. The song that earned her the nomination is her Mbira-gospel song called 'Huayi Tinamate' from her second album. The same song is the one whose video won the 'Outstanding Video' at the recent NAMA Awards where it was up against other videos such as Jah Prayhaz's Jerusama.
