The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) plans to introduce a consolidated vehicle compliance disc before the end of the year, combining the ZBC radio licence, motor vehicle insurance and vehicle licence into a single document.
The proposed disc is intended to simplify compliance for motorists, reduce the number of discs displayed on windscreens and improve the verification of vehicle documentation through digital technology.
Responding to questions from Zimpapers, Zinara said the new disc would feature a quick response (QR) code allowing authorised personnel to access key vehicle information, including the expiry dates of the radio licence, vehicle licence and insurance, as well as the vehicle's registration and chassis numbers.
The system is expected to make it easier for enforcement officers to verify compliance while helping to detect fraudulent or invalid discs.
Zinara said the consolidated disc would also include security features such as a Zimbabwe Coat of Arms watermark and a hologram to deter counterfeiting and tampering.
The initiative comes as the Government pursues public sector modernisation and digital transformation aimed at streamlining administrative processes and improving service delivery.
Motorists will not, however, be required to replace valid existing discs immediately when the new system is introduced.
"Motorists whose existing discs remain valid by the time of the launch of the single compliance disc will not be required to replace them because of the new system as they will continue using their valid discs until their normal expiry," Zinara said.
The transitional arrangement is expected to prevent unnecessary replacement costs for motorists whose current documentation remains valid when the new system comes into effect.
Zinara said its target was to launch the consolidated compliance disc before the end of 2026, subject to prevailing circumstances.
