ZOU enters into partnership with ZTA

The Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) have entered into a major partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding at the ZOU headquarters in Harare recently.

The two parties decided to venture into a partnership after realising the gaps within the tourism and hospitality industry, with the hope that the institute of higher learning would provide research-based solutions.

According to ZTA Chief Executive Officer Karikoga Kaseke, the partnership will see the two parties helping each other in the extensive training of staff in tourism and hospitality industry. Other areas of collaboration would include exchange programmes, learner support, quality assurance, research, identification of entrepreneurship opportunity and training of workforce in the in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Kaseke added that research has been long identified as a necessary tool for any development. Therefore, ZTA will be collaborating with ZOU on relevant research projects that will bring development to the tourism and hospitality industry.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the ZOU Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Alfred Champion Ncube had this to say; "If you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go further, go together. This is how best I can describe what we are about to do with ZTA. In this new dispensation, we will need partners to make sure that we educators bear fruits in any industry in Zimbabwe. We need each other to realize our goals".

Prof Ncube also said one of the main objectives of the partnership was to establish a Centre of Excellence in tourism in the resort town of Victoria Falls. He, however, challenged both staff members from ZOU and ZTA to hit the ground running in as far as implementing this project is concerened.
