The government owes US$62 million to the country's universities, a development which has seen students under the cadetship programme failing to access their results.
The higher and tertiary education ministry has pleaded with all universities to allow students on cadetship to access all services as the government has come up with a payment plan.
The Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Dr Godfrey Gandawa says his ministry through the Ministry of Finance is paying US$30 000 every month to each and every university to clear the debt.
Dr Gandawa added that universities should not deny students on cadetship programme access to their results among other benefits as the debt belongs to the government not the affected students.
The cadetship programme was introduced by the government to help underprivileged students and the contract is that the students work for the government for at least three years.
However, with the economic challenges the country is facing, there are limited employment opportunities in government to employ the graduates.
