Head ordered to restitute school over $3000 he stole

A Donkwe Donkwe Primary School head in Kezi was sentenced to 12 months for stealing over $3000 school funds.
Abraham Dube (56) pleaded not guilty of theft when he appeared before Kezi magistrate Jimmy Ntonga who convicted him.
He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, 3 months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. The remaining nine months were wholly suspended on conditions he restitute the school $3551-00.
Prosecutor Smart Tafireyi said on August1 2016 an anonymous letter was received to the effect that Dube was misusing school funds.
Between November 29 2016 to 30 the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education assigned Mwandiedza to go to the school to conduct an audit.
The audit discovered that Dube misused donor funds amounting to $866 donated to support the under privileged pupils at the school with food and school uniforms.
He channeled the money towards the renovation of classroom blocks and national Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) affiliation fees without the involvement of the school finance committee and SDC.
The court heard that from February 2016 to July , Dube receipted cash of $5295 from school levies.
He deposited only $2 820 into the Agribank Maphisa branck school account and had an under bank of $2475 which he converted to his personal use.
In August 2016 and October Dube received and receipted $1370 from school levies and he used $1160 before banking for school expenditure. He converted $210 to his own use.
