TWO Bulawayo men are in trouble following their arrest after they allegedly fatally assaulted a suspected thief.

The now deceased had reportedly stolen a laptop, a mobile phone and wallet belonging to one of the accused. Bulawayo police spokesperson, Abednico Ncube said the incident took place on Monday night in Tshabalala high density suburb.

Ncube said the accused Marvellous Mpofu was arrested alongside his neighbour Marvellous Sibanda, 30, for taking part in the assault that led to the death of Bekithemba Ndlovu.

"The accused were arrested on Monday in connection with a murder case which occurred on March 8 in Tshabalala involving…Ndlovu (age not given) but from Gwanda district.

"On March 8 around 0300 hours, Mpofu arrived home from attending a funeral in his neighbourhood and heard some footsteps outside his house.

"He then proceeded to his bedroom and saw a hand fishing out an SMC laptop, a cell phone Iphone 5s and a wallet which were on the bed. He then alerted his neighbour Sibanda and they chased Ndlovu,'' Ncube said.

Upon catching up with the alleged thief, the duo reportedly assaulted him with all kinds of weapons until he lost consciousness.

As a result, Ncube said the now deceased was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon admission.

He said a police report was made resulting in the arrest of the duo.

Ncube urged residents to desist from taking the law into their own hands as similar cases have been on the rise in the city.
