Mthwakazi must operate within its margins

What Mthwakazi has to learn is to operate within the margins and parameters of existing national and global political limitations. As I scan through the political landscape I don't see the most important ingredient in political revolutions.

Inspiration! Our fragmented organisations are our first and most obvious weak point. They symbolise the truth that we all refuse to admit. We don't have a leader with the charisma, intellect and panache to inspire us as a united entity. Don't get me wrong. I am not trivialising anyone or dismissing the hard work and grind that has been put in by the current political elite in Mthwakazi, but I fear that we have been operating in Zanu mode unknowingly.

By Zanu mode, I mean Zanu has created a system where potential leaders go out and annoy the secret service publicly, get arrested and then get some followers as this is misleadingly seen as bravado. Its not! It does well to attract fanatics and extremists but does nothing to inspire the whole mainstream population of Mthwakazi! That is a fact! It is to play a game using rules that are set by Zanu and have been done a million times with no result! Albert Einstein once said Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

If we are earnest in achieving our goal of self-determination then we must delve into the lessons History has made available to us. Nqobizitha Khumalo highlighted the Scottish model as one such treasure trove of ideas. Zanu created a tribal divide, we must have leaders who are brave enough and man enough to stop this backward, non-progressive method of politics.

To rule ourselves we must put our emotions aside and learn and understand ourselves. We have changed as a people as the effects of marginalisation and subjugation have changed us. Scottish nationalists took a vote on independence and they lost it. I wonder if we took a vote on Mthwakazi independence today among Mthwakazians would we win it. I dare say no. Most of our people ridicule this notion.

They do so because the nation has agglomerated and our people, cultures and families intertwined, relegating exclusionism to the dustbins of impossibility. What I am saying is, we stand a better chance in fighting for devolution of power. Achieving this will allow us to govern ourselves effectively. Imagine Mathwakazians in the seats of power in all Mthwakazi regions! Our councillors and MPs making decisions on how to spend our resources at local level and representing us in Parliament.

How many of our lives will that change? Such a system will alter the course of our people forever. The concept of borders is over rated and quickly becoming an outdated notion. Political power must be withdrawn from the corridors of mansions in Borrowdale and spread to our localities. That is our real struggle. That is our achievable goal.

Our current leaders have roles to play, but let's not fool ourselves, they have failed to unify us. Our cause must be right for ALL Mthwakazians. Our people must be united. United we stand as a true and unstoppable force!
