A political commentator Rejoice Ngwenya has said the proposal of National Transitional Authority (NTA) is myopic and naïve, as it assumes Mugabe can ‘volunteer' to step down.
A group of concerned citizens are agitating for the NTAS to run the country before preparing for the free and fair elections.
Ngwenya said he is for Coalition of Opposition Parties to remove Zanu PF from power, as of yesterday.
"The proposal of an NTA is myopic and naïve, because it assumes Mugabe can ‘volunteer' to step down. Mugabe will only give up power by being forced to resign, dying, falling ill, through assassination or being voted out. NTA is child's play and we have no time for games, please. However, a coalition that excludes ‘certain parties' is also limited in its PR potential, because it's those ‘briefcase parties' that will be foul-mouthing us and supping up with Zanu PF for revenge. It is better to have everyone on board, as long as due diligence is done to weed out Zanu PF clones," he said.
"My issue with Joice Mujuru is not so much that she has ‘not confessed to Gukurahundi' or that she has ‘dirty hands'. Actually, Jealousy Mawarire has made enough noise about her to convince me … and (MDC-T Leader Morgan) Tsvangirai, but what does she bring to the Coalition of Opposition Parties that all MDCs, ZAPU, Mavambo etc. do not already have? Nothing obviously, because we know why Mugabe has been ‘winning' since 2000."
Ngwenya said Mugabe uses government food aid, local government institutions, headmen and chiefs – to mobilise and buy votes.
"Mugabe uses ZEC to turn a blind eye to vote buying. He uses ZBC/ZTV for propaganda, as well as The Herald, Manica Post and Chronicle. Mugabe prints as many ballot papers as he wants and ‘deploys' them to as many polling stations as he wants. Mugabe uses police and army to prevent us from campaigning, arrest us and intimidate voters. It is Mugabe, through his Rita Makarau people, who counts votes and announces results. If you dispute results, he uses his George Chiweshe to throw your case out of court. Mugabe uses Air Zimbabwe to go lie at SADC and AU that opposition is ‘western sponsored," he said.
"So, can Joice Mujuru help us deal with Mugabe since she knows all these tricks? What else can she tell us about Mugabe that we can use in our campaigns? Jealousy Mawarire says Joice Mujuru will ‘come' with war veterans and Mashonaland Central, but is this enough to give her ‘special status' at the Coalition of Opposition Parties high table? If not, she is just as useful as Tendai Biti, Elton Mangoma, Lovemore Madhuku and Jacob Ngarivhume to the Coalition of Opposition Parties."
