Typhoid outbreak, ministers blame each other- Ngwenya

Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya has said the Zanu PF ministers are resorting to blaming each on the outbreak of typhoid in Harare instead of finding solution to the problem.

"Harare is currently experiencing a typhoid break ... two deaths to date. Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyeni, local government minister Saviour Kasukuwere and health minister David Parirenyatwa are blaming each other for the health chaos," Ngwenya said.

"Manyenyeni - no doubt playing to the invisible gallery of popular support - blames government for interfering in council work to discredit opposition party MDC-T. Kasukuwere says the council is so corrupt they abuse resources for personal gain (political grandstanding); while Dr Parirenyatwa argues that poor reticulation and water delivery is the cause of this and other epidemics."

He said in Ruwa where he stays, town CEO Julieth Makombe and her Ruwa Town Council are yet to experience any disease outbreak, but it's a matter of time.

"Consider my middle income neighbourhood in the attached picture: you see one guy who runs a transport company then parks, services his large vehicles right in front of his house. Sometimes he comes with cargo marked 'dangerous'. I don't know where he discards his vehicular waste. In the foreground, a woman operates a tuck shop right at the corner of the road - no toilet nearby thus her children defecate freely in the drainage behind," he said.

"I could be wrong but someone probably sleeps in that spaza shop and we all know where their toilet is in the dead of the night! Just down the road, at the left of the picture, there is 'Amai Sidhi' shebeen - a private home doubling as both a bar and night club. The 'revelers' also use the same drain for toilet. Now, we can blame Mugabe all day for causing such impunity, because during Ian Smith time in Rhodesia, these clowns would long have been removed by municipal police. Most problems in Africa are self-inflicted, but we still need a NEW form of progressive governance."
