GRUESOME five!
Nyarai Matiti (47) from Lot 11, Village 3 Matayilani area some 60km west of Beitbridge along the Bulawayo road was killed by five men who beat and locked her inside a bedroom hut which they set on fire.
It is alleged five unidentified assailants went to her homestead where they posed as police detectives investigating a crime she was said to be linked to.
Sources close to the case said when the five arrived at the homestead there were two other people sleeping in the same hut with Matiti. The two were told to get out of the room and they complied.
Five minutes later the gang is said to have come out of the hut and in no time, it exploded as if doused by a flammable substance. Matiti was burnt beyond recognition.
"The suspects vanished after ensuring that the whole hut was on fire," said a source.
The matter was reported to the police.
"The police took the woman's body to Beitbridge District Hospital mortuary for a postmortem but no arrests have been made," added the source.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson, Inspector Philisani Ndebele could not be drawn to comment on the matter, referring all questions to national police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi who had not yet received the report.
"I am yet to get information on that matter," he said.
