UNITED Kingdom based Zimbabwean and female football agent Ellen Chiwenga has been named the Best African Woman making a difference in Sports Category at the Africa Virtuous Women Awards (AVWA) 2018.
Chiwenga is a full-time football agent holding FIFA and FA licences, a football Brand Ambassador for the Pakistan based FC Karachi, a member of the Association of Football Agents and a scout.
Another winner is former MDC-T legislator and lawyer Jessie Majome who received a Special Recognition Award for her individual recognition to African politics.
The event took place last weekend at the Women's Development Centre in Abuja Nigeria.
Chiwenga was honoured for her developmental work towards improving the country's football infrastructure through charity work and worldwide sponsorship.
"I am very grateful to all for this award. It gives me strength and willpower to keep promoting the amazing potential of Africa, Zimbabwe internationally," said Chiwenga during the award presentation ceremony.
Chiwenga is also a winner of the Personality of The Year 2017 Award from the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards United Kingdom.
A total of eighteen individuals were shortlisted for the awards.
Other high level individuals who won the awards are Uloma Rochas Nwosu, Queen Adebukola Ojo and Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.
Commenting on her own award, Majome said she was caught unaware by the accolade.
"I am surprised to be honoured with an African Virtuous Woman Award for contribution in Africa I understand is for my political work as a parliamentarian," said Majome.
"I wonder where the organisers heard about all the way form Abuja and the UK. Thank you AWA! I was unable to travel to Abuja to receive it. It was an honour and a privilege to serve."
She added, "Congratulations too to my compatriot Madame Ellen Chiwenga for her top accolade."
