MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has distanced his party from the 14 January violent protests saying the they have nothing to do with it.

Chamisa was speaking at a Press Conference held at the Party headquarters Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House on Tuesday.

Said Chamisa, "As MDC we would like to reiterate that the Stayaway had nothing to do with MDC. The police have arrested our officials and members seeking to link them to the Stayaway. What we as MDC said was that we endorse the citizens action because it is within their constitutional right."

Chamisa further alleged that the state had an agenda against MDC hence their crackdown on his party.

"What we now know is that the state has an agenda against the party MDC. When they tell you that they have a list of rioters they actually mean they have a list of MDC members because their actions have shown that they are targeting the party. You even heard them recently saying they are interested in our congress. It shows that the message we are carrying is scaring them and they have resorted to playing the messenger and not the message. In this case 5the messenger is the people of Zimbabwe."

Chamisa said he is now taking the fight for democracy to the United Nations.

"I have written five letters to Mnangagwa to say let us talk but he has not responded. I have sent people to him to says let us dialogue and map the way forward for the country all to no avail.

a"As a party we have also written to SADC but got no response. I do not know how many bodies of Zimbabweans  they want to see before they intervene. We have decided to escalate the matter to international bodies because our brief is about the well being of the people of Zimbabwe."
