The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has announced a significant reduction in fares for its scenic train service to the upcoming Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo, with passengers now able to travel between Harare and Mutare for just US$20, down from the usual US$60.
The special schedule, released yesterday, features three main trips between September 7 and 9, departing at 07:00 each day. Travellers will enjoy stunning views of the Eastern Highlands along the route, with additional short scenic rides within a 20km radius of Mutare scheduled for September 10 and 11.
NRZ spokesperson Andrew Kunambura explained that the fare reduction was part of cost-cutting measures and a strategy to encourage more people to experience the region's natural beauty. "The fare was reduced downwards after reviewing our costs and also to encourage more people to experience the breathtaking beauty of the Eastern Highlands by rail," he said. "We want the Sanganai/Hlanganani train to be not only a mode of transport, but also an unforgettable part of the tourism experience."
Tickets are available at the NRZ Harare Train Station offices along Kenneth Kaunda Avenue, as well as through direct bookings via the company's contact channels.
