A 31-YEAR-OLD Soldier allegedly hatched a plan to defraud Bindura District Command Agriculture Scheme of inputs valued at US$6 400 in connivance with four other accomplices.

The soldier Lawrence Ngonidzashe Jenami and his accomplices Yvone Makwavarara (37), Nobert Mutsondi (46), Brian Sairasi (30) and Maxwell Mushayi (28) appeared before Bindura magistrate Tinashe Ndokera on Friday.

They pleaded not guilty and were granted $10 000 bail each.

Prosecutor Clement Kuwanda alleged sometime in November last year Jenami observed some loopholes in the command agriculture scheme where he was working at Bindura district together with Makwavarara.

The two convinced Mutsondi, Sairasi and Mushayi to open fake CBZ accounts in a bid to acquire command agriculture inputs.

The trio opened the accounts under Agro yield accounts and purported to be genuine farmers at Creigside farm, Matepatepa in Bindura.

On March 8 the trio went to Mount Darwin Grain Marketing Board (GMB) and collected fertilizers and took it to Makwavarara's place of residence.

Police received a tip-off and pounced on Makwavarara who exposed the deal leading to the arrest of the suspects.

The matter continues on March 26.
