Peter Ndlovu is poised to become the most high-profile transfer of the current football window after reportedly agreeing to join Scottland as manager ahead of the 2026 season.
The former Zimbabwe international has been linked with a return to local football for several months, and indications now suggest that the deal is close to being finalised. Ndlovu was last publicly active as manager of Mamelodi Sundowns before being reassigned to a less visible role at the South African giants about two years ago.
Ndlovu, who represented Zimbabwe at Under-20, Under-23 and senior level, was spotted in Harare on Tuesday, sparking renewed speculation that he is in the country to conclude talks with the reigning Castle Lager Premiership champions. Sources close to the negotiations said discussions have been ongoing for close to three months.
If completed, the move would be a major statement for Scottland and the Premier Soccer League under the leadership of Rodwell Thabe. The club made headlines last season by assembling a star-studded squad that included Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona, before going on to win the league title in their debut top-flight campaign. Scottland became the first team in 41 years to achieve that feat, emulating Black Rhinos, who last did so in 1984.
According to insiders, Ndlovu's package would make him the highest-paid technical bench member in Zimbabwean football. The deal is said to include a lucrative signing-on fee, a house and a high-end vehicle, further underlining Scottland's financial muscle and ambition. Ndlovu was last year gifted a BMW worth about R2,6 million by businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
Scottland officials believe Ndlovu's profile and pedigree align with the club's long-term vision. The former Highlanders and Black Mambas forward rose to prominence during a successful playing career in England with Coventry City in the early 1990s, before later transitioning into coaching. He is also credited with guiding Mamelodi Sundowns to a continental title during his tenure.
Club secretary-general Fortune Bgwoni confirmed that an announcement would be made once all formalities are concluded.
"When that happens, we will let the world know," Bgwoni told reporters.
Meanwhile, reports from Eswatini indicate that Kwakhe "Stopper" Thwala has also joined Scottland this week, adding to the club's growing list of notable acquisitions as they prepare to defend their league title.
