A 39-year-old Mwenezi man died under unclear circumstances after reportedly complaining of severe chest and stomach pains while staying at his girlfriend's home in Chitanga.

The deceased has been identified as Calvin Tarugarira of the Chief Neshuro area in Mwenezi.

According to information gathered by police, Tarugarira left his home on March 3 at around 2pm after informing his wife that he was travelling to Rutenga to look for employment.

However, instead of heading to Rutenga, he reportedly proceeded to Chitanga where he stayed with his 48-year-old girlfriend for several days.

Police said Tarugarira began complaining of chest and stomach pains at around 7am on March 6 while at the homestead.

It is also reported that on the same day he had been drinking traditional mapfura beer with a friend.

His condition reportedly worsened the following day, March 7, to the point where he could no longer walk, forcing him to remain inside a bedroom hut at his girlfriend's homestead.

Later that night, at around 8pm, Tarugarira allegedly began screaming in pain before he died.

Police attended the scene and the body was taken to Neshuro Hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Masvingo provincial spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa confirmed the incident.

"Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of death," said Dehwa.
