Retired Major General Gibson Mashingaidze has publicly distanced himself and other former senior officers from remarks attributed to retired Air Marshal Henry Muchena, stressing that the statement does not represent a collective position.

Mashingaidze said no formal consultation had taken place among retired generals before the statement was issued, and as such, it should be viewed as an individual opinion rather than a unified stance of former military leadership.

He underscored the importance of professional integrity, noting that any communication presented as reflecting a group of retired defence officials must be grounded in consensus. Without such engagement, he warned, there is a risk of misrepresentation and confusion among the public.

Mashingaidze also reaffirmed that retired members of the defence forces remain committed to national stability and constitutional order, and are wary of being drawn into political or public debates without proper coordination.

By clarifying their position, he sought to preserve the credibility of former military leaders and avoid the impression that there is a single, unified voice among them on contentious national issues.

The episode highlights underlying differences in perspective within Zimbabwe's retired security establishment and raises broader questions about authority and accountability when individuals speak in the name of a wider group without a clear mandate.
